Any input would be great. I have a 2000 I30. Last week the valves started clattering under load and the service engine light came on. I ran some basic fuel injector cleaner through one tank and the clattering stopped. Arter about 350 miles the light went off. Tonight the light came back on and the thing started acting nuts!! After starting and when cold it idles irratically and then stalls. I then started it, gave it a little gas, let it warm up, let off the gas and it idles perfectly. I drove it down the road to Auto Zone to get the codes checked. It has no acceleration. I had to pull over to let traffic go by. I can slowly push the accel. and it will slowly accel. but if I give it more gas than that it does nothing but bog down. The codes it put out were 171 and 174. Both the bank 1 and bank 2 fuel systems are to lean? The car has had all maintanence done on time. 84000 miles. I do know the last tune up I got the guy put Bosch plat. plugs in. That was at 80,000.

Do a search on Bosch Platinum Plugs and you will discover they destroy VH45DE engines. Was this a dealer?

No. I was an idiot and got hooked into a sched. service deal with Tires Plus. It saved me 375.00 vs. dealer but now I'm wondering how much more it's going to cost. I didn't find out about the plugs untill I started reading threads from this site. They are going in the trash first thing in the morning. Do you think that is my only problem?

I'm doubting that's the problem on the I30 - but it's a good place to start. I think if new plugs doesn't fix it, I'd have it towed to a dealer - no need to damage anything further by driving it this way! My guess would be a mass air flow sensor, or electrical connection.

Let us know how the plugs look when you remove them... a major difference with one or two plugs will narrow down your problem if it's limited to a cylinder or two.

Thanks for the help. MAF's aren't cheap but if that"s all it is I'll be happy. Can I test the MAF with a voltmeter?

Not sure on the I30... you should be able to find plenty in salvage yards since the Maxima unit will work too. I'd go ahead and get a true diagnostic from someone trained on the I30 or Maxima that knows how to use Consult. It'll cost some $$, but it's better than throwing parts at a problem.

Speaking of throwing parts at something... I had a buddy who kept throwing parts at his Chevy S-10, basically anything the guys at AutoZone told him might work. Ended up using an aftermarket O2 sensor that took out an alternator with a short, and damaged a solenoid in the transmission. End result - towed to dealer, new transmission, replaced the O2 sensor and alternator - got truck back after $2800 bill paid. That $89 diagnostic fee sounded like a deal after that!

I pulled the Bosch plugs out yesterday and they are totally screwed. They only had 5000 miles on them. I put stock NGK's back in but that didn't fix the problem. I've got an appointment Monday with the dealer to get it checked out. By the way, the nearest Infinity dealer to me is 65 miles. Nissan is 2 miles but they said they couldn't run a diag. test on an I30. Is that couldn't or didn't want to?
