help with transmission!

my ride - 91 coupe. ok i just got a swap for another 93 ka24de after blowing the one i had. i found an ok one for 200$ but it was a automatic. it didnt really matter since the 5speed transmission i had was in good condition. when i got the motors swapped, i just got the mechanic to change the trannys. for some reason in the begining it wouldnt shift as smoothly as it used to and now the transmission seems to have some what of a hard time changing gears into 2nd and 3rd. whenever i shift up theres a feeling that it doesnt want to go in right away. sometimes it even scratches. wat could i do to solve this problem. should i go ahead and change the transmission fluid since it is old or is there nothing i can do but buy another transmission. your thoughts would help. thx

How good was your mechanic? do you trust his ability to work on cars throughly? I would say if it shifted fine before perhaps he installed the pressure plate or clutch disk improperly.
