Here is some info from a tire rack test. http://kansasmotorsports.com/f...t=676

Kuhmo, Hankook, falken, Yokohama are all popular choices. Apparently Falken dont like alot of heat, from what I have heard from other drivers, the MX's dont have quit as much grip, but take heat better. I dont know much about the kooks (I think most people run 712's{???}) or the Yoko's, other than the yoko's are exspensive. That is just what i have heard from other drivers. I dont have any personall exsperience with any of them, FWIW. I have all seasons!

If you can afford it, ppl run almost exclusively falkens for autox:

Falken Azenis 215 (now 615) - bigger ballers get it shaved: don't last as long, but grippier

There's an event coming up next weekend (practice June 10th, championship June 11th). Roll by, check it out, see what everyone's running, etc. You can run Sunday w/o prereg, I think practice is already full. I should be there both days (if I get in Saturday, otherwise, just Sunday).

I'm currently gonna test my new tires: 225/50 Bridgestone Potenza RE750 - I like em so far.

Was running Yokohama Parada Spec 2's before, those were nice - but I came from mismatch all-seasons, rofl.

205 & 225 setup should be fine, depending on your driving style. maybe 215, 225 setup for just a weeee bit more tire in the front, hehe.

Any decent tire will do for a good while until you start getting competitive.

Hit me up on email or aim (agentsonic02) if you wanna roll w/ us (possible a posse of 240's & honda friends will be rolling for this event) or check out solo2.com.

You should be able to fit some 245's in the back and 225's in the front if you go with a 45 or 50 series. May depend on the wheel offset.

What class are you running in? The Falken or MX is a good Street touring tire--but if you run in Stock, Street prepared or Street mod --you will need an "R" compound to keep up --V710, or Victoracer/Ecsta, Hoosier etc.

First, you have 8" wide rims, which puts you in Street Prepared or Street Modified. This basically gives you unlimited choice on tires as long as they're DOT legal. Anyone competitive where I Autox runs Kumho Ecsta V710's. The Kumho V710's treadwear is 30, that's right I said 30. That's why they're the best. These tires are not made to be driven on the street.

I would personally sell the 7" rims and try to find another set of 8" to match yours. Running two different sizes of tires won't let you rotate your tires. Rotating will definetly extend the life of the tires.

225's should be good on an 8" rim.

If you are new to Autocross, then Welcome! You will become addicted, all I can think about is my next Auto-x event.

I thought their wear limit was 140, or am I thinking STS2? I thought stock you could run any DOT tire, but in ST and SP you had a minimum of 140. Could be wrong and don't feel like reading through scca's rule book right now.

My motorcycle street tires (Michelin Pilot Powers) are a 52 and the #1 choice for streetbikes doing occasional track days. I can put thumbnail prints in my tires, I couldn't imagine how soft a 30 would be.

Yeah, for any of the Street Tourings you have to have a minimum treadwaer of 140. In stock class you can run any DOT tire, but they have to be the same size as stock on stock or stock sized rims. There is a maximum of 7.5" wide rims in ST as well, which makes it not an ideal class for 240's because 2200 lb. civics and Mini Coopers can run 7.5 inch rims. It puts our large, heavy cars on the same size rims as them, but with an extra 600 lb. Having more horsepower isn't going to help either. In street prepared you can run 10" rims on DOT Slicks if you want, wheel size and offset are unrestricted. But engine mods are strickly forbidden, with only boltons allowed. This allows us to run the size of tire needed to compete with lighter cars.

Yeah, 30 is super soft, but they can last an entire season if you only do one or two events per month.

If you can find an R that works for you run it. Consider getting them shaved and heat treated as well and keep them in happy little bags so the bad UV rays don't get them.

As for brand, I like Kumho but other brands put out some good rubber as well. Also if you like to drift (and I do not) you can get some MXs that smoke in fun colors when they spin.

I love my RT-615s. I drift, but i also autoX to learn to control my car better. But i must say, i went from Donlup Direzzas to Azenis RT's (up front only) and the difference was very noticable. I was able to enter turns so much faster than ever before.

One of the older guys was telling me that he used to run the old azenis and they would get hot. But all he did was spray them down with water while on grid and everything was fine.

I highly recomend the RT's.

Speaking as a fellow 240 guy.Im a very active autoxr and track day participant and instruct for several groups and am an scca member .I have had 2 sets of avon tech R 225/5016s on stock S14 wheels and 1 set of 215/45 16 kumho v710 and 1 set of falken azenis 205/55 16.If your gonna run a tire (especially in any class except ST)go for the avon tech Ra.This tire is great.I did 5 + autox runs twice amonth for a year and 2 hours worth of pdx at barbers motorsport park on these and still they arent corded.I corded the 710s with 2 autoxs and one barbers weekend. The azenis aint even worth talking about as a non sts tire.Great street tire ,great sts tire ,youll get your butt whipped in stock or mod with azenis tires(usually). On average the azenis is still 2 seconds off the R compound pace.As usual, speed costs so be prepared to pay 170+ for R compounds in 16" .I believe the car can go under the radar with 15s so go get some cheap 15" wheels and run those wheels in autox. The maxima wheels work on 5 lug.Hope this helps ,if it dont dont flame on me too bad guys ...this is only my results that was gained from 1800.00+ worth of real seat time and experience from a 95 S-14 with no mods whatsoever ,inclusive of struts and crash bolts and Ive got 230k on the clock.Im ALSCCA GS champ this year as well as TVRSCCA GS champ (running Avons against both of the aforementioned tires)proof positive that even a blind squirrel trips over an acorn or two on his way to the can!
