Help with tape deck/ipod

Help! I wired my iPod through my cassette deck (03 m45) only to find out the deck didn't work to begin with. The auto reverse function continuously flips the tape. I also noticed the the wheels don't turn. I guess I shouldve checked to see if it worked before I wired it up. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Buy a new tape deck and dont modify it

I just use a cheap 10 dollar tape deck to headphone converter. Works and sounds just the same. I wired under the dash and never have to touch the tape.

Sounds good but I'm new to all this (beginner) what exactly does that mean?

I would go with the best one (Sony). I only provided this link for example.

I ran the wire behind the wood panelling and up through where the cup holders are. The only part you see is the 1/2 inch of wire going out of tape deck and immediately wrapping up and behind the wood panel.
