help with stuck (broken 1998 Frontier tailgate)

Ever since my GF had her bed sprayed.. the tailgate has been hard to open. The last time I tried, I actually broke the plastic handle.

Any ideas of how to fix this? Any diagrams anywhere?

Take it back to the place that did the bed Liner and tell them it's a bugger to open. Let them fix it. They should have the right tools and materials to fix the problem.

The broken handle can't be fixed, but it can be replaced. That's only a matter of removing the inner plate on the tailgate so you can unbolt the old handle and install the new one. The plates' screws on the tail gate might be a bit tough since they would be covered in the spray liner. But the install can be done with simple hand tools. ( I don't have an electronic picture/PDF file for this but I doubt you will really need it)
