help with stock them gauge

well, i'm trying to get my stock temp gauge working and have a few questions...

first - why does everyone say the stock temp gauge is so unreliable? is there a way to fix this problem? the last thing i want is another after market gauge in my car...

second - the fsm i have is for a fwd sr20det and it shows the sensor to cluster temp sender under the throddle body and i'm pretty sure its not there....so where would it be on the rwd sr20?

thirdly - i got the temp sender from i believe a 95 ka24de. is this the correct sensor?
