Hi All,

I had a nasty steering fluid leak on my steering rack where all of the lines attach. I thought the was a crack in the pressure lines from the pump ($525) and replaced those (hateful job!!!). I really should have initially investigated the problem better... I was wrong!!!  It appears that the hard lines on the rack itself are leaking. I have found the parts which you can buy. Anyhow, my questions are,

Has anyone replaced these lines with out removing the rack?

If the rack has to be removed, is it a hard job (do you have to drop the sub-frame)?

I am very handy with wrenching on cars, but I am working in my driveway which sucks!!

Thanks for any help you can give!!

Hello there.
Yes indeed, the aluminum lines can be replaced without removal of the rack. However, if something got so botched up that you had to remove the rack, that can also be achieved without messing with the subframe - fortunately or unfortunately, the time I had to replace my lines, the engine was already out and I've not had to remove the y50 rack either, but if memory serves me right, then it should be that simple.

Hi EdBwoy,

Thanks for the reply. I went ahead and ordered the lines, about $170 for both including tax and shipping... not too bad for Infiniti parts! ;) I guess I'll found out just how hard, or easy, the job is while on vacation next week!

Cheers!

TG, could you take some pics during the process (in case anyone else has to do the same thing)?

Good luck man - Also, make sure you grab the FSM for your car (www.infinitiservicemanual.com) before you dig in!
