i am assuming i need a soldering iron with an adjustable temp setting. what temp do i need to set the soldering iron to to socket an ECU without damaging the ECU, and can anyone give me any tips for doing it?

or hell, any ideas on somewhere to look to have it done.

thanks,

you can go to radioshack and pick up a regular soldering iron, while your their pick up a desoldering pump.

Its ridiculously easy you dont need fancy ****.

Yea, definatly get the desoldering pump, It's a bit of a pain removing the old chip w/o it.

too be honest I would atleast learn to do it, you'd be surprised how easy it is and you learn a new skill. Plus you can make money off it. I learned how to solder now I charge people to solder new chips and charge $100 in labor plus parts to build ecu's for people.

Its not THAT easy. You have to be very careful desoldering the chip. Overheat the traces and they will seperate from the board. Also, there is glue on the back of the chip that is a real pain in the *** to get off. My advice would be to find an old motherboard or NIC card with IC's on it and practice on those.

its also "dual layered" which means the solder goes right through the board to the other side ( which is why you need a good solder sucker/desolderer )
