I can't seem to pass smog. I am failing the HC (hydocarbons) portion of the test by a small margin. So far I have replaced air and fuel filters, adjusted timing, cleaned out TB and intake mani as much as I could, and replaced the O2 sensor. Anything else you guys can think of? I really dont want to shell out $200 for a new cat when I'm just gonna take it off once I get exhaust. Thanks for the help.

Well, besides all those things you have fixed have you checked the basics. Are your spark plugs good, gapped right? Are your plug wires good? Is your engine comin up with any trouble codes? Run any checks you can on the egr.

thanks for the reply. All of that should be good. I havent checked my wires but the car only has 50k on it, so they should be good (I'll check anyway, can't hurt).

regardless of what you do to fix the problem, try retarding your timing a couple of degrees before you retest. That might lower your hc level a bit. with only 50k on your motor , i would be looking for more blatant causes for your stinky emissions. if the car runs good and there are no big probs, i dont see why it wont pass. make sure no codes are on your ecu.
