i want a custom enclosure for show use and removable for track use

notes: trunk is gutted including rear tire and i have a battery relocation kit

first problem, i got the jl w6v2. its heavy so i need the enclosure to be removable for the track.

i have both jl spec enclosures for it. i currently am using the ported box and it takes up the entire trunk with my trunk mounted battery, i have 2 2x4s mounted so the box doesnt slide around when im "playing in the rain"

the amp and cap are sitting nicely in the gap that leads to the interior(for now) i attatched velcro to the bases so they are remoavble and they never slide or budge,(even when doing some drifting-been like that for18 months)

can anyone just shoot me some ideas or pics? im pretty cluesless at this point. i need some type of plan or guidline so i can get started and just let everything fall into place

Get an 8" sub, small box, and yank it out whenever you need. 8W7?

8w7 has been on my eye for years now. when it comes to sound quality, theres no comparison between w6v2 and w7. hmm, ive got an idea now actually.... anyone want a 126v2? i have both optional enclosures to jl spec for it, ported and sealed boxes.

If your spare tire well is open, you can do a fiberglass box that goes inside of it . you can put some handles on it and yank it when you want to go lightweight, but it still stays put when you want to drift or do some time attack. i'll see if i cant dig up a pic of one Ive done before.

I'm sure you can/ should brace it with wood when you form it. Look here for a couple of examples.http://www.icixsound.com/vb/showthread.php?t=20488

yeah, i think i can come up with something but that magnet is so friggin huge on that sub, the top of the box will have to be above the actual bottom level of the trunk. it needs 15" mounting depth

Utilize a sealed enclosure setup to lower the size of the enclosure to 1.25cf sealed. Have the amp/caps mounted to the front of the enclosure and do wiring that you can disconnect. It may be possible to use brackets to attach the box to your shock-tower for support instead of bolting other sections of the auto. Creating a box that uses the space of the tire-well and a raised sub-floor would be a viable solution as well.

ok, its all coming together now in my head, quick question, what is a light weight solution for the floor? i dont want to use mdf because its wayyy to heavy.... with my gutted trunk, my car weighs 2740... i dont want to go too far above that. plus, i want to make some flat side walls of the trunk as well

Just my $0.02 here: why not just leave it as it is, use the $$ you're gonna spend on materials for somethign else? Either it's a show car or it's a track car - if you want to do both then there's that compromise between havind subs in a removeable box, or having a custom trunk install. I mean say you do a custom trunk with sidewalls and a custom floor, etc. What are you going to do on 'track' day? Just pull the sub part out? What about the walls? what about the other stuff in there? And you can't really go 'lightweight' for the floor if the sub is going to use it as a baffle.

It just doesn't sound right to add a bunch of showoff stuff into your trunk if you're concerned about weight. You're thinking of like still leaving the walls, the sides, the rest of the assembly in there, removing just the sub part right? Say the whole deal adds about 100 pounds, and the sub-part is like 60 pounds. Great. You added 40 lbs of useless into your trunk just so that you can have that 'custom enclosure.' IMO the way you have it right now is good enough and easy to remove when it's 'track' time... but again, that's IMO

For the floor, as in the tire well? I would suggest multiple layers of fiberglass that mate up to wood sides. As long as the width is not too wide to remove the box, you could probably design it where it will pull directly out. For amps/caps/etc, I'd create a subfloor using 1/4" plywood, some 1x2 (or 1x3 or 1x4/whatever) to support the raised floor section that could be made of pegboard and covered with carpet. If you do it right, they should mate up and you'd never know they were two seperate pieces that can be removed.
