Help with s13 power locks

I have an 89 hatchback, and on occasion, my power locks do not work. The problem is, when i go to lock the door, the lock button does not stay in the lock position. It 'forces' itself back to unlocked. Sometimes i can not get it to work, but after awhile it seems to fix itself. Has anyone else had any problems like this? Luckily it hasnt happened at a place where i feel completely uncomfortable leaving my car unlocked. Thanks.
