I'm about to purchase Roll Bar for my s13, it's....Autopower Race Roll Bar*4 point mounting*welded diagonal crossbrace*Horizontal tube for shoulder harness mounting

But I don't know which tube I should get...

2" ERW tube, or 1.75" DOM

Which one's better? which one should i get? (and pass scca rules..)

The car is for Road racing, autocross, etc...

(i did search about dom, but i only found 'condom' )

technically the ERW bars are not legal unless you have a logbook that is older than the DOM requirment rule (called grandfathering in)

real world is unless you are doing a full cage and real door to door racing it wont matter, but a DOM tube is stronger and there will be no question on legallity, so why chance it?

IC thank you for your answer. I'll buy 1.75" dom.

this's just side question, why would people get ERW if dom is better?

ERW is cool if you're looking for something cheap, but the seams in the material make it very difficult to bend.

DOM is seamless and very easilly bent into the proper bends without twisting.

If you're only looking for a roll bar, and depending on what kinda application and sanctioning bodies you're going to be running with, check their rulebooks for pipe size...

SCCA is 1.50 with .095 wall thickness, NHRA (drag) is 1.75 .120 wall thickness and if you have a cage that is made of 1.5/.095 you wont be able to ever take the car down any NHRA drag strip, no matter what the car is going to run. just a heads up

its not stronger though, see kamin's first post

i can go check my rulebook again but i want to say scca is actually .120 thickness also, ill have to check

for you though, go with the DOM 1.75, make sure its .120 wall thickness

The autopower 1.75 DOM one will work for basically all racing events in this area.

A roll bar is really one of your "last" concerns before racing though... basically, I'd get it installed and all about 1 month before I actually do a real road race. All the other stuff would come first (i.e. suspension, etc), and uhmmmm, actually start signing up for some . You nearly don't need ANYTHING for autox. learn your car as it is right now and you can see better which mods are working/not working for you/your car.

For autox, you don't need a roll bar at all.

For drag, you don't need a roll bar or cage until you go under 13 seconds or something... maybe even less seconds than that.

For road racing... yes, definately.... but not if you keep your stock seats & belts, it would be more for precaution at that point... the majority of the guys I see going to HPDE's in this area don't have roll bars or cages or anything... then again, they have airbags and I don't - it really all depends on you for this.

as a beginner you dont need a rollbar even for HPDE. once you get good and are really starting to push the limits of your ability and the car it would be a good idea, not to mention if you want to put a seat and a harness in the car a rollbar is 100% necessary.

i plan on getting the bar in my hatch around the same time i switch to R comp tires, same time i move to HPDE 3, after 4 or 5 events

my racecar will be getting a full cage probably before it even has a running engine
