Anybody here ever replace the tension rod bushings on their 90-96 Q45? I have two choices. I can either pay around $150 a piece for the complete tension rod or I can pay around $30 each for the bushings and have them pressed in. I tried the search to see if anyone has pressed them out themselves but I don't get any results.

Thanks
Matt

5 second search, 240sx use the same bushings, bushing install for 240sx. Pretty easily swapped.

I've done it, but borrowing someones huge press... You'll need a hydraulic press and the appropriate sized drift to accomplish the swap. If I remember correctly I used a very large socket that happened to be the right size. From what we can tell, the FSM is wrong regarding the arrows stamped on the bushings. They actually face forward toward the front of the car. That's how they're installed if you buy the whole tension rod assembly from the factory.

I had to decide with my mechanic to either do the whole part and 15 minutes of his time pers side (if that) or have him do the press. I opted for fresh rubber and metal....you do need a big press to do it, so if your doing this from home buy the complete part.

Well, I already ordered the bushings yesterday so I guess it's to late now to cancel. Hopefully I can find someone with a press.

Any shop one step up from "halfass" should have a basic press to do this simple job. the shops{ had tension rod bushings pressed in 2x so far from different shops throughout the years} can do this in less than 30 minutes tops, including removing and replacing the rods from car.

Here is a simple basic press, similar to what my 2 different small shops had and used for my bushings http://t1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9 ... vKf46Xi-SS

It turns out my brother has one of these presses but doesn't have any of the press blocks that originally came with it. He's about 3 hours from here and I'm working on getting out that way this weekend but not sure if the parts will arrive in time. Do you know what size die I will need? I guess worse case scenario is that I'll just have to pay a little extra to have them r&red at one of the shops here.
