Hey folks! Looking for some guidance.

My car threw some code and is causing the SES light to show. I tried to manually pull the code using this method, but it didn't work - step 2 didn't/doesn't happen. Any suggestions on getting that method to work?

The SES light came on the moment I hit 50 miles overdue for an oil change; I don't know if that has anything to do with it or not. After the oil change, the light is still showing, so I wanted to check out what might be causing it.

Thanks all!

So none of your warning lights that come on when you first start the vehicle ever go off? (that's how I read this when you say step 2 doesn't happen...)

That method up there is the cheapest way to do it (it's free) and you can reset the light that way to see if it keeps happening. It does take a couple tries though. It took me two or three with my Altima when I had to check my 2008 for something.

Try it again. If all else fails, bring it to autozone or advance auto parts and get them to print you the code (it's also free) and come back with the code and we'll go from there if you're still getting the light.

Mr. Music, I have an ELM 327 code reader (plugs into laptop, use with ProScan). I have the box, cable etc.

Useful for pulling and resetting codes and monitoring sensors etc. You can get it on www.dealextreme.com or if you want, give me like 10 bucks for shipping and i'll send you mine. I have no use for it anymore. Let me know,

Hey guys,

Thanks for the replies. The SES light turned off about two or three days after I posted this, so that's about four or five days after the oil change. I'm assuming the light had something to do with the oil change interval, as I went over by about 100 miles.

XenonSE-R, to answer your question: when I turn the car on, all my lights go on and off as usual, but when I put it in "on" without staring the motor, none of the lights come on. I tried a good ten times before giving up and coming to the forums for help lol.

QR25DE, thanks for the heads up and offer; but it seems as I don't have a use for it any more either. If I have any more issues with it though, I will definitely contact you to see if the offer still stands.

Again, thanks folks.

The light turned off because it did not throw the code 3 times of running the car. It was probably not from the oil change, however, most likely something very minor such as a misfire, o2 sensors, etc. Could have read a low voltage somewhere and threw a random code.

Next time I would certainly pull the code if this ever happens again. :) Good that it "fixed itself" though, free is always good lol!
