so i got a ka24de for cheap. i started to take it apart to clean it up and put new seals and gaskets. i got to the intake manifold took that apart and inside the bottom part of the intake there was oil inside and it looked like there was residue stuck from a while back. then i took a look at where it could of come from. it was coming from the pcv valve and that means their is compression leaking through the pistons rings...or at least that is what i thinks. so i need help to trouble shoot that problem

and if i do need to replace the rings can i just replace the rings and put it back together. i know i might have to hone the walls but i would like to save as much as possible, don't want to have to buy new pistons rods and bearings for everything

but if i have to wait till i get more money
forgot to mention the guy who had it beforehad a turbo on it :gotme

How far have you taken the engine apart? I'd do a compression/leak down and see what the numbers look like before just replacing things. Turbo engines will have a little more blow by than an N/A motor, so it depends on just how bad it is.

well the motor was running before i bought it it seemed fine. then he pulled the motor and i took it home.
the motor is on a engine stand. Ive gotten all the bolt on stuff off, just the timing stuff and head are still on there
can i do the leak down test or the comopresion test on the engine stand?
and thanks for the reply :bowrofl:

You could do a leak down on the stand. The numbers will be off since it will be cold, but should give you an idea. The blow by won't be as bad without a turbo, but if the rings are bad they are bad.
