help with new water temp gauge

i am trying to put in a new set of guages and one is for the water temp but i have encountered a little problem.the gauge comes with a sending unit but its to long to fit where the original sending unit was located at, and none of the adapters even fit the original threads, i was told to find a few adapters and match it up so the sending unit doesnt even reach the intake manifold the adapters create a kind of resivor and it treads into the original sending unit slot, problem is i cant find any adapters that fit the original hole and fit the adapters the gauge comes with, its driving me crazy and im out of options

is it a thire gauge cluster if so i know what you talkin about and there has to be an adapter for that for that aplacation
