I have been drag racing at the track for about 4 years. I take my G to the track at least once a month... its an automatic.
Run your front tires up to 40 psi, let your rear tires down to 22-26 lbs of air depending on track temp, turn off VDC and put the transmission in DS mode.
If you really want to get crazy, remove everything from the trunk, and passenger compartment (floor mats, trash ect). Remove the back seat, remove about 1 quart of oil from the engine and drain your radiators overflow tank. Remove the plastic liner from under the motor. Remove your air filter at the track...... all the above is only if your really crazy.
Heres how I launch and get the best time.
1> avoid the water box! Street tires are slippery when wet and you will not be able to burn all the water off spinning them. Water will collect in the sipes and you will take it down the track with you creating an unsafe condition for EVERYONE. I am always pissed at the NOB using the water box with street tires.... his lane will be slippery for about 3 runs after his.
2> after the starter gives the signal to burn out do a light brake stall and spin the tires up to the line.
3> Launch from idle, one foot on the gas one foot on the brake (stick, one on the gas one on the clutch)
4> When the 2nd yellow light dims floor it you will cut a .2-.3 rt, you need full throttle to get weight transfer and pop the front end up
5> your going to brake traction, let up slightly from full throttle until you have traction then floor it again
I'm running pretty consistant 14.0's at 100 mph launching this way. I'm going to buy drag radials SOON and then I will be able to leave at a higher RPM and break into the 13's.
Here is a video of my last trip to the track, if you turn your volume up you can hear me break traction on lauch and then I let up very slightly and floor it again. The same night I left at 2,000 RPM and did not let up the car ran a 14.7 LOL So you need a little bit of wheel spin but not too much.
To answer your question about wheel spin breaking something...
If your just spinning it probably will NOT break anything. If you have wheel hop that can break suspension parts and differential parts! So avoid wheel hop.... if you get it let up as soon as you can. Take some video and post some slips.... I would love to see another Infiniti at the track!
Your more likely to break something if you do not have any spinning. The rear axle is IRS so it has cute little half shafts that can probably be broken with a set of slicks and a good launch.
Heres what is looks like when you break a half shaft... this is my off my buddies SRT-8 charger thats bored and stroked to 426" and running a 75hp shot of NOS as needed
