Has anyone ever replaced one on a vg33. I have a 97 Qx4 and Ihave reviewed the fsm and was wondering if anyone had any tips on other things to replace while there and if I needed any special tools.

Shouldn't need anything special. Nissan uses 10mm, 12mm and 14mm for everything except the lug nuts so as long as you have those three, you'll be fine. Make sure you have a good light so you can see what your hands are doing.

Being as most of the VG33E engines have a knock sensor code thrown every time you look at it sideways, I'd leave it alone and not mess with it. It's a lot of work to get to. Is your engine pinging when you accelerate or go up hills under light throttle? If not, I'd leave it.
