Yes, that sounds like rod knock to me. Even if it is just the timing chain guide bouncing around in your engine it would be a good idea to rip it open and remove it before it does a lot of damage. When did the knock show up? Have you been driving it like this?

I would HIGHLY suggest you pull your engine out of the car, put it on an engine stand and pull the oil pan off, once that is done replace all the bearings, inspect for damage, and seal it all back up. At the very least pull the pan off while the engine is still in the car and check it. If you continue to drive it with it knocking like that you will grenade the hell out of it, I speak from experience.

it showed up after drifting on the way home i heard it. and i havnt been driving it AT ALL. i donnt want to blow the motor. and i was planning on dropping the oil pan, but i have no tools to replace anything. thanks. im going to buy my buddies 80k ka with blown piston rings and get new ones, and hopefully boost it.

$68 sure sounds like a better deal than a couple hundred to replace the block entirely, which if it has blown piston rings you may have other issues to look into like replacing the head gasket, burnt pistons, a warped head or whatever else could be wrong.

As far as how to replace the bearings just search the site, I'm sure there is a write up about it since this is one of the issues that comes with having a KA. I'd also suggest you get an FSM, there are a couple of links around for this too. If you noticed it after drifting then it's definitely spun bearings, that's how I blew up my second KA. It's likely from oil starvation. As far as tools and not knowing how to replace the parts, I'm sure you know someone who knows how to work on cars and has the tools and space to do the work that is willing to help you out. Where do you live, I'm sure someone on here would be willing to help out a fellow NICOnaut if you live close by.

well i live in south florida and im shure replacingthe bearings isnt hard, but its a 180k mile motor its had its days. and the other motor my buddie has was turbo but got bad compression(due to bad piston rings apparently) so im not really shure what to do at this point.
