Ok, well I've just pulled my engine out and replaced it with the same model and year engine (1990 300ZX NA Automatic). I did this with the transmission attached. I now have everything put together except for one (3 wire)connector which is at the end of the wires at a length of about 2 ft, and come from the top of the transmission, right behind the bell-housing. I can not seem to find what this connector connects to on the actual wiring harness, nor can I find the sensor/connector on any wiring diagrams that I look through. this car has been a project of mine and sitting for almost a year now. this is the only thing really holding me up. Anything will help!

Welcome to NICO, if it's keeping the car from starting I suspect it's the inhibitor swithc, while I have no exerience with automatic Z32's it's gererally located on the side of the transmission where the linkage hooks into the transmission on the passanger side of the trans, it shoud be behind the arm that actually selects the gears and it should have some sort of electrical connection, this tells you're car that it's in neutral and it's safe to start, and even if it's hooked up sometimes they are adjustable or they simply go bad, does any of this help? keep us posted and we'll help figure it out

Oh I guess I should've stated that, but the car does run, but its not running up to par; whether or not it is because of this connector that I can't connect, I don't know...but I just figured that having a connector not connected to its respective harness connector isn't really a good thing. No, I've seen the inhibitor switch on the side, and what I think is the revolution sensor near the back-end of the transmission, but I have no idea what this sensor is on top. The sensor has a red wire and white wire both which are surrounded by braided wire(which I suppose might be a ground). Also the sensor is a shaft that is about 3-4in long, with the end 1.5in able to spin. Thanks again.

hmmm. looking though the fsm, the revolution sensor (which does what?) looks like it has a 2 wire connector with a gruounded shield ? but you already have it hooked up? as far as other sensors, there is the speed sensor which I would think would be easy to figure out as it should control your speedo, backuplamps (again self explanitory) tans temp sensor (this one might be shielded as well)and selenoid harness (I don't think you can drive the car without this)any of this helpful?

looks like you have to be a member of face book to view, can you host it elsewhere, like photobucket?

Apparently Z1 thinks this is something that some individual did, but i don't understand how it looks so stock, and why it is on TWO of my transmissions from different vehicles. so one more time for a picture...

That is the turbine revolution sensor. It is used by the transmission control module to control shifting. If it fails completely or is disconnected the system uses the speedo sensor to get the rpm's from the transmission. This shouldn't affect how the car is running at all. I am trying to find where this plugs into so I can unplug it on my girls car cause it is failing and not wanting to shift correctly intermittenly. So it will default to the speedo sensor and it can be driven until we get the money and have the time to fix it. I am not a z32 expert by any means, gleaned all this info from the fsm.

My 1990 didn't have that sensor but I bought a 1994 Infiniti j30 because my transmission was not shifting , the infint had that sensor I didn't connect it , still I have the shifting issue I do believe that one of the outside sensor on the trans is bad and caused the Nissan trans to not shift , I had to swap all the sensors from the Nissan to the Infiniti trans because they run to the fender not under the trans like the Infiniti so within this week I'm goin to tap into the harness and change the sensors that were in the Infiniti trans and see if it works and shifts again , 94 Infiniti I know is a good trans ,I drove the car for two years before the timing belt broke
