Viscous spins them the same direction, with diff in or out of car. Do you have the s15 helical diff? I have been wondering about how that install is completed for awhile. I hear that the s15 input shaft will not fit with your driveshaft. Did you have to shim the gears at all, or just drop in? As much info as possible would be great. BTW, great choice on a hlsd. most people on here are way to into clutch diffs. Helical is superior.
it's an S15 spec R diff. i just pulled out the old diff and output shafts and put in the new ones. no shimming needed on mine, it might be necessary on some, probably not though. some people talk about making collars for the ring gear bolts because the s15 diff uses larger ones so the holes are larger. i'm pretty sure the ring gear just barely fit over the housing so there's no chance of it sliding around. maybe twisting but i don't think so. all this came up after i installed mine so i didn't have a chance to look for myself. it's a bit of a pain to take out so i'll let someone else figure it out for sure.
i'm not sure about the input shaft, i used the stock ring & pinion and pumpkin. you need specific output shafts but they are 3x2 like the stock halfshafts so you're all set there. more and more sellers are figuring that out so they aren't too hard to get.
it's a pretty simple swap if you have the tools and mechanical ability. i love the diff too, it's completely transparent. it feels like an open diff except the rear end hooks up better.
