Hey guys....I JUST got my s14. Its suppossedly an SE model...thats what the guy told me anyways. I was wondering the various ways to tell...Its a 95 and has cloth interior and power locks/windows. It does have 5 lug. The only think that threw me for a loop was the fact that i dont think I have an LSD. I had the car up in the air and when i turned one wheel forwards the other wheel spun the opposite direction. Any inight on if i have a real SE or not?

the lsd was an option on the se I believe. So it wasn't stock on them. I have a 95 se as well that didn't come with an lsd

Most SE's don't have LSD's, it was only an option. You can tell if you have one though by looking at the diff and seeing if there is a little orange sticker on it that says VLSD. A VLSD turns the wheels opposite directions too btw.

Yeah not all SE's have LSD, if you have white faced gauges, than you probably have an SE.

oh ok, i didnt know it was just an option. but yes, i have white faces too...also, i just looked at my carfax, and its noted there as an SE model. thanks for the help guys...im pissed tho because the guy who sold it to me told me it had lsd. gabossie, my friends vlsd in his mr2 turbo spins both wheels forwards just like the planetary-type diff in my jetta. Im pretty sure if the wheels spin opposite ways its 100% not lsd at all.

not true, mine spins them opposite, but i have an HLSD. but those are goofy (and fantastic). not so sure about the VLSD, it takes some force to bind up the viscous fluid so they may not act like a clutch type.

better test, turn wheel, stomp gas, count stripes.

Viscous spins them the same direction, with diff in or out of car. Do you have the s15 helical diff? I have been wondering about how that install is completed for awhile. I hear that the s15 input shaft will not fit with your driveshaft. Did you have to shim the gears at all, or just drop in? As much info as possible would be great. BTW, great choice on a hlsd. most people on here are way to into clutch diffs. Helical is superior.

I'm pretty sure if you have ABS you have a VLSD. 5 lug and white faced gauge cluster points to a SE.

it's an S15 spec R diff. i just pulled out the old diff and output shafts and put in the new ones. no shimming needed on mine, it might be necessary on some, probably not though. some people talk about making collars for the ring gear bolts because the s15 diff uses larger ones so the holes are larger. i'm pretty sure the ring gear just barely fit over the housing so there's no chance of it sliding around. maybe twisting but i don't think so. all this came up after i installed mine so i didn't have a chance to look for myself. it's a bit of a pain to take out so i'll let someone else figure it out for sure.

i'm not sure about the input shaft, i used the stock ring & pinion and pumpkin. you need specific output shafts but they are 3x2 like the stock halfshafts so you're all set there. more and more sellers are figuring that out so they aren't too hard to get.

it's a pretty simple swap if you have the tools and mechanical ability. i love the diff too, it's completely transparent. it feels like an open diff except the rear end hooks up better.

I've been looking for an s15 HLSD. I still don't know if I'd change out the ring gear or not... I wonder what the difference really would be. I'm gonna be KA-T, so that might help counteract the taller final drive.

i would if you are going KA-t, especially if you are going for a high power setup, 300hp or more.

see if you can find an importer that can get you the whole pumpkin then. alot easier that way.
