Help with Heater/Defrost/A/C vents on my 90 240 Hatch

OK guys, I need advice about how to manually change my vent flaps from "Face" to "Defrost" (windshield). I have tried changing the controller (a couple times to make sure i didn't get a bad one) and still nothing. My AE86 I can just reach up and under and manually change flow direction. Just want to know if anyone had this prob and knows how to manually change the vent flow??
