Hey Everyone! New memeber here. I have always been a fan of Nissan trucks, even had an 07 Frontier NISMO for a while.

I picked up a 93 hardbody XE 4x4 last week. Mechanically sound, but doesn't look like much. The front bumper is rusted and deformed, so I ordered new bumper mounts and bumper from rockauto.com based on some posts I saw looking around the forum.

I found the link to the service manual http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/ha...t.pdf and it is helpful, but I still don't have a clear understanding of the dis-assembly process. Anybody have a walk through with some pics or anything? I also am looking to pick up new hardware to install the new bumper with. Does anyone have a list of the necessary hardware to install the bumper mounts to the frame and the bumper to the mounts? I went to the local dealership parts dept and they weren't terribly helpful.

Any help will be appreciated! And I'll post pics too once I get the new bumper on.

It's not a terribly hard job to do at all. 4 15mm or 13mm nuts hold the bumper on.

If I am correct you have the same bumper as on my 95 so here's how I did it.

-Remove outer screws on the turn signal lights.

- To the center of the turn signal bezel there are 2 10mm bolts. Remove those and then you can extract the bezels from the bumper.

-Next use a pocket sized flathead screw driver to push the locks to remove the turn signal harnesses. Remove complete assemblies from the bumper.

-Release the clips that hold the grill onto the core support. Remove grille and set it aside.

-Using a 3/8ths ratchet and a deep socket you can then remove the 8 nuts that hold the bumper to the brackets. When I replaced mine on my 96 every stud on the old bumper broke which made removal easy. You new bumper will have new studs. I suggest you get new nuts and washers, don't reuse the old stuff.

-You might need a second person to help get the new bumper onto the brackets. I used a medium sledge to shape one bracket that was slightly out after my accident.

-Installation is the reverse of removal.

Check out my accident repair thread from last month to get an idea of how things look, I just replaced the bumpers on both my 95 and 96.

Some other things to watch out for. Be sure to transfer the plastic screw anchors from the old bumper to the new. I used stainless hardware but that's because I am anal, you are not required to go that far if you chose.

Here's a link to my thread. I took a few pics but not of every step. zer...truck

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the walk through! Exactly what I was hoping for. The link to your pics is helpful too.

It's been 33ish degrees here in VT the past few days, and without a garage I'm waiting for it to warm up a little bit before attempting this.

Another related question: Does anyone know what kind of hardware is used to attach the bumper mounts to the frame?

Thanks again, pics for the project truck in question tomorrow.

Bolts hold it to the frame. I believe those are 15 or 17mm.

Reverend, I really appreciate your help!

Here are some pre-makeover pics. She's getting a new bumper and mounts, and flat black paint.

Yours shouldn't be too bad, mine was trashed yet came off without many problems. Looks like a fun project.

Made some progress this weekend. Record high temps in VT made for some excellent painting weather. I had always wanted to paint a vehicle flat-black, so being as the paint job(s) currently on the truck couldn't get much worse, I figured what the hell.

Spent about 2 hours prepping, including taping off the windows and such and some light sanding. 6.5 cans of Rustoleum flat-black spray paint and 2 hours later, presto!

New front bumper is going on tomorrow. More pics later.
