My 2006 M35X is really loud at low speeds while accelerating and I rather have something quiet. I had a 2004 Maxima and it was much quieter. I got the exhaust looked at by couple of exhaust stores and they all said this is normal with the age and offered to change the mufflers. I do not want anything loud or expensive. I just spent over $800 on maintenance and cannot spend any more. What mufflers do you guys recommend that will keep the car quiet and not break the bank. I saw some OEM mufflers on ebay from a 2006 Maxima. Theoretically it should fit but I wanted to get your opinion on what to buy. All I care is for a quiet ride :)

I have to think there's an issue with the exhaust. I've driven an 06 M, and it's not loud at all, certainly along the same lines as the Maxima. Does the car perhaps have an aftermarket exhaust? My guess is that you have a leak somewhere, or something along the way has been changed from factory, because that car is NOT loud stock.

The car is bone stock and there are no leaks in the exhaust. I have owned I35s, Maximas and even driven my cousins M. None of the exhausts are loud. I think my muffler is going bad based on what both exhaust places told me. My question is will a Maxima exhaust fit, what is a good aftermarket that has the same factory look and will not break the bank!

Personally I'd try and find a stock exhaust from a salvage yard. Even if it's only from the cats back, an exhaust shop should be able to install it.

I've never really heard of mufflers going bad like this on a Nissan product. Most the times the pipes will rust causing a leak, but I've never seen a Nissan muffler get loud like that, especially one that's only 8 years old.

YouTube it. Loud is subjective.

TDOT. My previous car was a 2004 Maxima which is very similar to the M. I have driven my cousins stock M with more miles and it is quieter :)

can you take a video of the exhaust sound??? could be a few things...ypipe, resonators gone bad, catalytic converters, mufflers...rust could be an issue -- creating a break or a hole in any areas of the piping...or the prior owner did a resonator delete...

try and search the classifieds for stock M35/45 mufflers (06-07)...they go really cheap. I have an OEM set that I keep if/when I decide to sell my car I'll return to stock -- I picked mine up from another forum member sometime ago...

hope you solve the mystery....post a video if you can....good luck

The G35 and M35 are louder than maximas. The maxima doesn't have dual exhaust. But if you say that you drive another M and it's noticeably quieter then Idk.

Does your cousin think your car is louder? Does he want his louder? Swap exhausts?

At any rate if you don't want to try that then just have a muffler shop find you some quiet mufflers to install. I wouldn't bother getting maxima / I35 mufflers.

vasekvi : the 2004-2008 Maxima has dual mufflers just like the M.

CPJ LB: There are no holes in the muffler and everything is bone stock. When I got the car, the right muffler inlet pipe had rusted and they replaced about 3"s of inlet pipe.

I am thinking I will replace the right muffler first with another stock muffler and see how it goes. My question is will a Muffler from a 04 to 08 Max fit? I have been seeing a lot of them on ebay for 65 bucks.

would like to hear the exhaust....I know this is a far cry, but the catalytic convertors do go bad and part of the elements are lost also looses their sound suppression capabilities...leading to louder than normal exhaust notes. Kind of like having high flow cats (minimal catalytic elements) causing above normal (OEM) exhaust sound.

Unfortunately, if your shop did not take apart or unbolt the entire exhaust system, it'll be hard to tell. I've also heard that broken rubber exhaust hangers will generate loud vibration throughout the vehicle as well....so many possibilities...

I hope you find the culprit. good luck.

Where are you located? I have a pair of stock mufflers off my M35 that I don't really need anymore. I'd be willing to sell if you need em. Shipping cost may be an issue depending on where you're located. Shoot me a pm if you're interested.
