Ok so I'm here to learn so Id appreciate the comments of noob and such to be kept to yourself. So I'm about to buy a stock 93 S13 but the guy is telling me all I need is a downpipe. He says he has Cat And Exhaust. But I'm a little confused on situation and I think he might be to because when I said do you need a test pipe or downpipe he said yea. Now from my understanding The Exhaust hooks up to Cat then to Manifold on stock KA. But He said he needs a downpipe I always thought that Eliminated Cat to my understanding. Then he said he needed test pipe which I also thought eliminated Cat. Help me understand how this works.

4-1 ex. manifold - downpipe - cat / test pipe - exhaust.

some aftermarket exhaust manifolds combine both the dp with the header (i.e. 4-2-1)

Motor -> exhaust manifold -> downpipe -> cat -> catback.

On a stock car, the downpipe isn't really something that gets upgraded unless you're swapping out for a set of headers (performance manifold). Headers usually combine the DP and the manifold into one unit.
