Hey everyone, i just finished installing a new cat and catback i love the way it sounds execpt for the horrible drone under about 2500 rpm. The system is pacesetter headers, Magnaflow high flow cat, CM 2.5" cat back piping to a Magnaflow 3" in to dual 2.5" out.

My thoughts to get rid of the drone are to do one or all of the following:

1. get muffler that is 2.5" in so it matches the pipes(i allready had the 3"on laying around so i figured i could save some money).

2. also get the muffler single 2.5" out instead of dual. Do you think that will make any difference in sound?

3. install a resonator. my only problem is i dont think i have room for one anywhere between the cat and muffler. my other thought was to put 2 resonators, one on each down pipe before the cat.

Im interested in what everyone feels each of those choices would do for the sound or if there are any other thoughts. Thanks

Magnaflow mufflers use a baffle and have no fiberglass packing, if you simply swap to a muffler that uses fiberglass packing I'd bet it would take car of the issue.

I think you might have that backwards I don't know about all magnaflow mufflers but mine in particular is a straight through glass packed muffler not a baffle one

It's an older muffler but magnaflow 14862 is the closest to it

Magnaflow "Delta flow" mufflers have no fiberglass packing. They might offer glasspacks but all the traditional mufflers of theres I've seen are glassless delta flow units.

I think Magnaflow XL mufflers are baffled and Flowmaster Delta Flow mufflers are baffled. Neither are "packed". I don't know of a Magnaflow Delta Flow muffler. Baffles should help reduce the drone that you are getting with a straight through muffler.
