Hey guys any help is appreciated. I was resetting my ECU and after I put it back in the kick panel it seems my car's electricals got all jacked up.

My stereo doesn't work, and my interior lights don't come on anymore when I open the door. Also, when I try turning on the lights above the rear-view mirror, they don't work BUT I hear a click and the little indicator light that tells you when a door is still open LIGHTS UP. The clock also goes off when I hit the ceiling light switch on.

Another annoying thing is, when I turn off the car and open the door, the belt doesn't slide away towards the front of the car anymore unless I put the key in and into "on" mode and then open the door.

Anyway, I think it has to do with the wires surrounding the ECU in the kick panel. Any help or input is greatly appreciated. And if you need more info I'll try my best to give it to you. Thanks

sorry I'm really a noob and never messed with electricals (anything) ever; but where are the grounds and how can I check them? I only know of the one that's connected to the valve cover. thanks

without a multi-meter i guess the only checking you could do would be making sure pigtails/connections are together and not loose.. i would suggest getting a multi-meter and googling a bunch of electrical FAQ or how to use multi-meter otherwise your kind of limited with electrical stuff.. it's like trying to work on your car without a ratchet and wrenches..

I bought a multimeter at autozone for $14.00 last week
this model http://www.amazon.com/Innova-3306-Hands ... B001J4RIDI
Its worth it just to have one to test anything electrical. I had an older model of the same brand but there no good after being rained on ,for future reference.

to reset ecu, you disconnect the negative cable from battery for a couple minutes. press on brakes as well to speed the drain.

Why did you reset the ECU to begin with?

that's a whole other problem. Well, the engine light is on and I need to smog it by September. I reset it after I tested it for error codes (egr and knock sensor came up). Sure enough, the light came back on after a few minutes of driving. Going to clean out the EGR valve tomorrow and see if it helps. Btw, after putting in the new fuses in, the car seems to have trouble starting and starts dying unless I rev the engine a bit hahaha oh what luck I have.

Disconnect the neg batt wire and see if that clears anything up. If you have to rev the car I would go after a IAC problem. I think there is a procedure for re-setting the ECU, not sure what it is.......... Heres some words of wisdom "know what your are doing before you do it". I've worked on cars that have alot of customer induced problems, and it's a PITA to try and reverse engineer their wiring.

I did reset the ECU correctly. But the engine light will come back on if the original problem persists, which is what happened. I'm picking up an egr valve and knock sensor wednesday from a fellow forumite, hopefully the problems will go away.
