No, if you have the rear screen opened you do not need to have the car parked with the emergency brake on. You only need the emergency brake on if you want to see the dvd on the front dash screen too (necessary if your kids aren't able to use the remote, sometimes).

Make sure you are inserting the dvd in the correct direction. Check the manual to verify orientation.

Assuming this is happening with an off the shelf DVD (not a copy), you will need to contact an Infiniti dealer. It should be under warranty unless something has been done to void it.

It sounds like a read error.

DVD label facing passenger side into the center console DVD player (not glove box) will play the dvd with or without the rear dvd center DVD open, or the car in park/brake on; it will will however be limited to audio.

With the screen open in back it will play the video also on that screen, assuming that in the settings section (settings button on center front console), the rear DVD screen is set to display the movie, you can have it display map also (these settings the car has to be in park to change if I recall properly). You may also have to press the "disc" button on the dash until it shows that the DVD player is selected, not the CD changer.

I would suggest the owners manual would have best directions... but above may be enough to get you started;

if that is all what you have done; then its likely the unit is defective disc is dirty or a communications issues between devices, maybe someone did that DVD hack so they could play movies while driving (on front screen) and buggered it up and then sold it to you;tk
