my cat is clogged up and i plan on just hollowing it out, but i did a lil bit of searching on NICO and found this thread... is it true that the exhaust cat on the S14 is a dummy cat and the real cat is in the header?

(referring to http://nissaninfiniticlub.net/...ollow )

thanks for any responced guys

it depends on the model. you might just have the dummy, but the real way to test is if you GET THE FSM. There are many questions of that nature, but you cant answer them if you dont know when exactly your car was made. There are indications on your car that will tell you.

Only in specific states/Canada was the second cat real. Also, automatics had the second cat (don't ask me why).

You don't really have a "header" from the factory. You have a log type manifold with a downpipe that contains the primary cat.

HashiriyaGDB - The fsm isn't going to give him the answer he needs.

Here is the exploded diagram from the fsm:

is this the right cat that i should have hollowed? i hope so because me and my friend did so today. i cant feel any difference, but he says he does. i dono though. but it had a screen looking thing in it and when i pounded it out alot of dusty looking sh1t came out, kinda like powder, but lots of it. if i did the wrong one please circle the right one, i am not sure if i did the right one, the car dont seem to move any faster.

If that had the brick in it, then it was a real cat, and you have TWO! The other one is the bulge in the downpipe from the manifold.

I guess you would have to remove the down pipe and then hollow it. I would get a header and replace the lower cat with a real one tho. just as much flow with passable emissions. not as cheap tho...
