I own a 08 G35s sedan, and am in need of some new tires. I baught the car used with 14K on it and now have 28K on them. The Tires that came with the car or the OEM and i think they way over priced. My friend(owned 08 sedan sport too.) reccomended the KUMO's but told me the get one size bigger. instead of the 225/50/18 & 245/45/18 get the 235/50/18 & 255/45/18. Said they would last longer and to him the car drove better.

Any sugestions?

Not a bad suggestion - Your friend is correct.

Do some price shopping - start here: http://www.tirerack.com%2faffiliates%2flive%2findex.jsp%3faffcode%3dcp2/ and just price-shop everywhere. Sometimes TR can beat local prices, sometimes they can't.

I've had both good and bad luck with Kumho tires. I'm a big fan of the new Hankook lineup - the Ventus V12 are a sweet tire that won't break the bank.

Discount Tire is good if you have one local. I've had good luck with Yokohama S-Drives.

will getting the bigger size just get me more rubber? extend my milage.
i was thinking getting the Kumo asx over the LxPlatiums cause there cheaper. would that be a good move? The LX platium are grand touring tires where the ASX are all season perferomance tires.

They're only 10mm wider. Should have a tiny bit more load rating, which means they're just a little more robust... not much difference other than that.

As far as which model to get, that depends on your climate and driving style. Don't make your decision based solely on price. You've got a $40K car, don't put POS tires on it.

"Touring" is typically a high-mileage, harder-compound tire.

Compare the treadwear index and load rating between the tires you're comparing... those are important numbers.

Thanks for the help. I'm gonna go with the LX platinum. I want more tread. And I use my car for everyday driving.

Not sure if you have already made a decision on the LX Platinum. I just wanted to share a bit of tid bits.

The real difference in tire types lies in your driving style. If you are a calm and composed driver who is looking to maximize tread life, and prefers a quieter tire then kumho LX Platinum would be a good bet for you. If you are the type that has a heavy foot or just tends to enjoy their car, drive a bit faster, corner a lil harder or simply likes to "feel" the road then you'd probably want to consider a high performance tire. Kumho, Hankook would both do well for the price.

Also, if you live in the PA or DC area, then you have a great alternative in TireVan (http://www.TireVan.com) a mobile tire shop with great prices. If you are outside of those two areas, I'd say try a couple of online retailers like the track or even NTB (http://www.ntb.com)

Next time go on Tire Rack. They have reviews of the best tires and what they're best for etc. That's how I buy all of my tires.
