I am replacing the front brakes on my 89 240 (no abs). I took off the caliper and put the new brakes on but when I Tried to put the caliper back on it wouldn't fit because the piston in the caliper is too far out. How can I put the piston in the caliper back in so it will fit over the pads? Do I need to get a C-clamp? Any quick help would be appreciated...I need my car tommorow to drive to school!

Front brakes > c-clampRear brakes > Box tool found at autozone / discount, or long needle nose pliers, as they need to be turned / screwed in.

I would just use a c clamp and a piece of wood for all four. Put a small piece of wood over your pistion so you do not do any damage to the pistion and just tighten the clamp to force the piston back into its hole. Goodluck

Um then you would have two busted rear pistons....... The rears need to be screwed in. Thats why there are notches in the piston face, and threads on the pistons insides.

Thanks for the correction, I was too lazy to read your post infront of me to see that the rear brakes needed the box tool. My bad.

Hey the pads were only 18 bucks :) I didn't think I could put a price on my safety....but it turns out I could!!!

Thanks for the help..unfortunetely on the left side I stripped the ****ING bolt trying to get the caliper off and I bled the brakes on the right side wrong....no pressure now :( Do I have to bleed the whole system now?

oh damnn Bleeding. I hate it.You will have to bleed it. Changing calipers i don't really thing you had to disconnect the brake line? I did the samething on my first time and man bleeding was a bi*ch.fortunely there is that new Bleeder Bolt at https://www.speedbleeder.commaybe try that out :)

this is the first car i have ever owned with rear disc brakes and it's simple as hell to put brakes on the car.
