hey all, im wondering what power amp i will need for the subs im getting.

they are 2 alpine type R's dual 4ohm voice coils. rms for these are 600watts.

ok so my problem, most amps at 4ohms are soooo expensive for the power i need, i was looking at 2 channel amps.

but by ohms law, from my dad and i's understanding if we run the subs in parallel then the ohms will cut in half making it a 2ohm resistance.

this in effect, would only give me "one channel" i think, as there will be power going into the one sub, then passed to the other?

this is in fact 2ohms correct? and it would in fact be one channel? and thus if i were to have a 2 channel amp i would run it bridged? or would i just run a single channel and leave other empty to get the desired 2ohm rms i want?

i have confused myself over and over with this, and im sure none of this makes any sense..... so pls ask me questions to further explain because im unsure on how to be ahaha.

THANK U!!!

So you'll have two dual 4Ohm subs. If you run them in stereo in parallel you'll have 2 ohm per channel. That is pretty much the same as running the amp bridged at a 4 ohm load. Possible bridged ohm combinations are 16, 4, and 1. Throwing 16 out the door you'll be looking at amps can run a 4 ohm or one ohm load. Your also looking for an amp in the 800W-1000W range. anything that will run at 1ohm probably is built to be loud without to much of a focus on sound quality. If you want to stay Alpine I think about the only thing they have is the PDX amps. Either way your really not going to find much to run those for cheap.

You should select an amp that will put out maximum power at 4 ohm mono. Run each woofer in series and then parallel to the amp. At 4 ohm mono, you will have better control over the cone motion of the driver which means better sound and the amp should not run hot and shut off. JL Audio 500/1 or 500/1v2, Alpine PDX 1.600 or PDX 1.1000, etc. If an amp is less than $500 and says 1000 watts, it's not.

Another amp to think of is the Autotek SX1700. 700wX2 @ 2ohms don't let the name fool ya, this is the real deal.
