Hi everyone!
I have a 2008 UD 250k miles that’s very important to my business. Recently I noticed oil in the radiator and had the mechanic look at it (again). He says he’s fixed it, but when I am going uphill it’s very difficult to gain speed (well it’s hard period but very obvious up hill) and if I push it to even 50mph it will get too close to redline.

Just some of the things I recently have done:
Last
Piston sleeves (for the recent issue)
Fixed crack on one of the piston housings
Engine rebuild
Piston for air bypass
Transmission repairs twice
Radiator repairs twice
Turbo repair 4 times
Another engine rebuild

After all of this (and then some) I have no idea why the darn thing is so sluggish and bouncing off redline just to move. Any ideas? Thanks so much in advance
D

Oil in the radiator is typically a head gasket, which is a major repair (basically, a rebuild).

Symptoms sound like poor compression, which also points to head gasket failure.

Yeah, if he said he"fixed it", it would have been in the shop a while - that's not a quick or cheap repair.

I'm no diesel expert, but I'd also be looking for white tailpipe smoke and grey gunk in the oil.

Question: If the truck is hitting redline but not going anywhere, are you sure the issue is engine related and not drivetrain? Could your clutch/pressure plate/flywheel need some attention?

I'm only guessing but I think if the truck was struggling to put out power it would be hard to reach redline. Further, redline is redline and is tied to the gearing for you to know what your speed will be. <---confusing babble meaning, regardless of how much power my truck spits, 6000 rpm in x gear is gonna give me a pretty much the same speed every time. Difference being how long it takes to get there.

Just an uneducated guess tho :gotme
