I am not trying to start a flame war, or trying to be a smart a$$, but I would like your opinions, and although I realize I am in a g35 forum, I would like opinions as unbiased as possible. I am in the market for a new car and really like the g35. I also like the new maxima. I heard, or read that the vehicles are similar in some ways, but that is where my knowledge on the subject ends. If you could please provide comparisons, or specs comparing them to each other, you could really help me out. The price difference I don't really think is that much of a factor. I have priced them both through cars direct and the price is no more than a couple thousand dollars. One factor however is the fact that the nearest infinity dealership is about 100 miles away, so dealer visits would be a pain. i know the aftermarket, or build up potentional of the g35 is greater, but in all honesty the car will be for my wife. Of couse I'll have to get behind the wheel every once in a while and put the car through it's paces, but my daily driver is a titan.

Anyhow help would be appreciated. I hope to buy our (her) next car within the next year and want to start my research now.

The new G35 sedan is very nice! To answer your question, think of this… What would you rather have a Toyota Camry or a Lexus? Honda civic or an Acura. The Nissan Maxima, Infiniti is a similar argument. The Infiniti is a more refined vehicle than the Maxima, as the resale value backs that up that fact. If money isn't an issue, definitely go with the G35.

What you've probably heard is that the engine is the same in the two. While that’s true, they share the same block; the Infiniti is tweaked for performance. For car buying comparisons, the competition for the G35 is the Acura TL, BMW series 3, and the Lexus IS.

IMHO, the Max has gotten to be too big and too expensive.

For starters, I would take a 2007 Altima over the Max, in a heartbeat. I love the way it looks (has some G35 influence) and cannot wait to test drive it when it gets here.

Short of going that route, my advice is to get a G35 Coupe (my dream car) and never look back.

As for servicing, you can always take it to a Maxima dealership (although you will not get the service perks of an Infiniti dealership).
