so my a/c compressor is no good, it squeaks and put a load on my engine and considering that its winter here in Chicago i wont need ac any time soon,
so i was thinking of removing the a/c belt to stop the squeaking but i heard that it will not allow the defrosters to work, is this true?
and yes i did check the tension of the belt its all good.

Not sure if it is true on this car, but most cars run the AC when defrost is on in order to remove moisture to help the car defog better. I would be surprised if heat and defrost doesn't work at all, but it probably will have a problem fogging up on wet rainy days.

What year is your car? The earlier z's came with r12 refrigerant, which is better in my opinion, and later models came with r134. If you have the r12, then you may want to convert your ac system to accomodate the readily available r134 if you decide to replace the compressor

^^^Good call, any Z that is pre-'94 will have the older refrigerant and if your system needs work will have to be changed over, and at a cost unfortunately. I left mine uncharged since I don't use it, and have no problems with defrosting as the heat does the trick.
I am unsure though about your second question about leaving the belt off (mine is on...) though, sorry. I left mine on just to be safe and because I didn't have a problem there, just didn't want to add the R12 to R13 changeover costs to a A/C recharge since as I said I really don't use the A/C, and may eventually remove it all some day to reduce weight.

Thanks! I had my belt off for at least a year when i was too lazy to put a new drive belt back on. There were no issues doing that so i think you could definitely just take the belt off for the time being....doing so does free up some ponies lol
