I actually have a 2003 Infiniti M45, and now after 5 years i need new tires. This is the first set I am buying for this car. I actually went to my local tire shop and found a good quality set of 4 for $1400 (plus tax). I went on ebay and see that many sellers are selling tire and rim packages, for under $850 shipped. Well my question is, does anyone know if a offset of +42mm will fit on my m45? if i am not mistaken, the factory is +33mm offset. I am sticking to 18" though. Thanks

Welcome to NICO!

I'd say: stick with the OEM wheels. They are perfectly fine! Most inexpensive after-market wheels are simply not strong enough for the weight of the car and may lead to dangerous situations and rim-damage on bumps in the road, etc.

For replacement tires, check out Tire Rack (www.tirerack.com) and get some excellent summer tires for the car at excellent prices! Costco also has Michelin tires for relatively low prices - if you have a Costco near you.

BVTW, after five years, the rubber on your tires is probably degraded to the point of dangerousness regardless of the tread depth - all tires harden with time and anything that is 5+ years past the date of manufacture (stamped on the sidewall) is not worth keeping on the car at all. I would strongly recommend changing them out as soon as you can!

In terms of specific tire recommendations, consider getting the Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 or Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 in a 245/45-18 size. These will do great in Houston (no low-temperature driving on summer tires)! At Tire Rack, the Goodyear is $221 per tire, plus about $20 shipping, for example. Getting them installed and mounted tends to be about $25 per tire (maximum). So, you could have a set of these tires on your car for about $1000 or so. These tires will last about 20k miles or so.

Other lower-cost tire possibilities exist ... see the tire spreadsheet in the stickies at the top of this forum for a list.

BTW, what tire (brand, model and size) was the local place offering for that money?

I not sure, they were swamped, but they gave me a price for a 235/45-18. You recc. 245/45-18 will that be better? Also, I never thought of the rim bending, I do like the stock wheels, so I will definately take your advise on the wheels. Personally, though, I thought about the Dunlop SL Direzza, for the car. I used to have Dunlops on my 4Runner, and they've treated me well. What do you think about this tire?

Have them on my wife's FGY33 (very similar suspension design). She got them on an emergency basis as she couldn't wait for some Avon Tech M500. Not a great tire.

Read the Tire Rack tests, keeping in mind that they use a much lighter 3 series for their tests. Extra load capacity is a plus, so look for an XL rated tire for your car.

thanks ... i didn't end up buying them. my buddy's cousin works for bentley of houston, and he ordered me some european tires. he says they are made for cars like ferrari and lanbos, but anyhow he said thye should last me 25,000 to 30,000 miles or so and ran me $800 for four. works for me. i really like the m45, but in the line of work im in the m45 is not gonna be a daily driver for me much longer. i think i need to buy a full size titan, tundra, or f150 king ranch. not sure yet though. we will see how the tires workout i guess

Again, whatever the tire is, please make sure that the load index and speed rating is correct for the M45. Without knowing the brand or model of the tire that the buddy's cousin is getting you, it is not clear that this is the right thing to do. I suspect he is talking about Continental tires, though, and some of their models are decent to good.

Regardless, please make sure to use H-rated (absolute minimum), Y, W or Z for the speed rating. For the load index, get 95 (minimum) and preferably higher (like an XL tire at 100 load index). Finally, never buy tires whose date of manufacture makes them more than 12 months old - these have been sitting and degrading in the store.
