This is the situation. The car failed smog and I found out the engine wiring harness was missing the egr valve plug. I got a harness off a friend and replaced the whole harness. I also replaced the ecu but ended up putting the old one back. The car won't start now that I replaced the wiring harness. I think the car may have been a sohc that was changed to dohc. What could be wrong????The ecu #'s are Old ecu28 A11-b44-g70New ecu30 A11-B46-G72What is the difference???

http://jimwolftechnology.com/wolfpdf/ECU-ID.PDFI found this and my old ecu is a 91/92/93 ecu from a ka24de The new one is from a 91 ecu from a ka24deWould this make any difference. I would think so. they are both for manual cars w/ dohc

you need to determine if the ECM is california or federal as well. California has a couple more sensors ten the fed model and the ECM's are different as well.

The old ecu if federal and the new one is Cali. I got the engine harness off a cali version car w/ ecu. So, if I am to use the new ecu w/ wiring harness I need to repin the plug that goes to the dash main harness????

No you should not have to. The additional sensors are in the engine bay.

The original harness on the car was missing the plug for the egr valve. Since it is now plugged in, is this causing my car not to start? What do you think the reason is that it won't start.

The egr sensor will have no effect on starting the car. Go back and do some basic checks. Does it have fuel? spark? and good compression?

I checked all sensors to make sure everything is plugged in. The car ran fine with the original wiring harness. The only thing I did to the car was change out the wiring harness because it was missing the egr plug. I am also doing a brake swap at the same time but that could have nothing to do with it. Any other suggestions. I appreciate all this help.

Thank you nistech for your help. I got new plugs and was checking all the plugs again. I found out that the plug to the distributor was half way on. I was missing spark, one of the three you suggested. thanks
