Hey guys,

Need your help. Both my knock sensors have failed (codes came up but no check engine light). It's beyond my capabilities to replace them myself, but I'm going to have a trusted shop fix them for me.

Trouble is, I/the shop/their supplier/the local Infiniti dealer are getting different results for what the knock sensor harness looks like. I want to make sure we order the correct part so the car doesnt sit there for days while the correct one is mailed in.

To save several hundreds, I was going to get the parts online and have the shop install them. Something like this for 25 bucks-

Note that there it's one connector to one connector, and I'd order two, each would be completely separate.

Weird thing is, the Infiniti dealer seems to think the harness is completely different! Here is a fax they sent, their harness is circled in the lower right- Image
Note that it's a single piece that branches off to each bank behind the engine. They're asking about $180 just for the harness and several hundred for each knock sensor!

I cant even find a similar looking knock sensor harness for my car anywhere else. Is the dealership correct?? Or am I fine buying an aftermarket part that looks like the one above? And any trusted non-dealership brands you recommend?

Would love to know what the actual part looks like, esp from people who have done this themselves. Thanks!

sorry, no actual picture. but the 6P020 IS the one you want, and yes, there was some confusion about the correct p/n when i got mine. had to return the wrong one to IoS.

also, and I get that I am being pedantic----USDM 97-01 Q45 chassis code is FGY33.
Y33 was a JDM vehicle.

So in other words, the dealer is in fact correct...One harness that splits and goes to each knock sensor...And the aftermarket/Ebay style will NOT work?

If that's the case...that's crazy how many aftermarket sites have the WRONG harness!

it is definitely a "Y" harness and yeah, fleabay will try to sell you one size fits......some.
to be fair, i want to state that the 6P020 is the correct harness for my 97, which was a 02/97 build. my car is s/n 302073--so you can compare. I can't swear that there wasn't a change before or after that might yield a different part #. but in any case the cable must "Y'' to reach both knocks.

UPDATE! Knock sensors AND harness have been fixed. Here is what the actual knock sensor looked like (had to get this from the dealer for 100 bucks)-

3Q Jay...You were indeed right. It's a single harness with a Y shape. I even ordered (as a back up) the knock sensor harness from Autozone, and it was like every other INCORRECT posting I've seen online...One small harness for each knock sensor.

Car seems to have immediately improved. No more tremors at idle, and much sharper response from the engine. It's like I've suddenly gained 40 hp! Thank you for the advice.

And for what it's worth, my car was built late 1996.
