Hi! I own a Nissan Versa 2007 and heard some clicking down by the floorboard when steering. I looked down at the steering shaft and sure enough click click. I don’t know enough vocab to explain it properly- some metal Thing is clicking against another metal. It isn’t affecting steering ability- I just know it’s not good. Take a look at this YouTube video.

I have great faith this is an easy fix *fingers crossed* and I can do it myself. I just need to know what’s wrong.

I would appreciate any help!

Steering u-joint on the steering shaft is messed up. There is a piece of metal hanging off it that is striking the cover there. Probably fixable for nothing if you have a boyfriend to do it. Or you, since you seem to be a go-getter.

I'd be looking closer at what that strung out piece of metal is, it did something likely before coming loose to get bent out of shape. It may be a bolt retainer, or boot clip, or maybe a divot to strike some switch for something.

The metal piece simply needs to be bent to be lower and out of the way to not strike the cover any longer. Maybe tie it down with a plastic wiretie to hold it low to keep from getting snagged again.

Blow up that first main pic with mouse and you can see the part as it was originally shaped, on the lower end of that shaft. It is a bolt retainer to keep that safety critical bolt from coming loose. Looks like one end of it broke.
