Hey everyone im kinda new at the whole nissan thing so i am asking for a lil help........i just bought a 89 240 sx that needs some tlc.......for one the car wont start unless there is a wire hooked from the starter to the battery,the brakes are locked up, and 1st and 5th are out of the transmission.....so i am askin for advice on what i should invest in to make this car fast and reliable.....thanx

You would get a lot more help in the 240 section.

The car sounds like a beater.

BTW, fast and reliable don't go together.

Sounds like you'll probably need a new transmission, as well as replace or rebuild the frozen calipers. As for the starter... maybe the starter relay?

Fast, reliable, cheap. Pick 2 of those three. You cannot have all three.

As for the starter, which wire are you directly connecting to the battery? The big thick one or the smaller wire? If it's the big thick one, you'll need to look at the wiring harness and make sure someone didn't make a rats nest in there. If it's the smaller one, then it's probably the relay as Pappy mentioned. You can definitely tell that if there is no click from the engine bay when you turn the key.
