It's a sweet deal if you meet the requirements. The winters would suck, but so do the winters where you live.

Seeing as how they say the requirement is having a pulse, I think I'm well qualified haha.
But I was looking to l get out of here soon, and this may be the reason to do so. And I could handle the winters. Just gotta be prepared.

i dont think thats a week ,guy in this article says in 2 weeks he worked 220+ hours.

"Over this two week cycle, I've worked 220 to 230 hours. We get more overtime than straight pay with all those hours, and that's where the tradeoff is."

One of my buddies is a diesel tech out there and makes 3x what he could out here at even a very reputable shop. Said it's tough and you really do nothing but work. Don't even have time to spend the money. Another one of my buddies applied attempting to get 1 month on, 2 weeks off.

If I wasn't so busy at the moment, I would DEFINITELY consider. Can't beat a job and home where you make money faster than you have the opportunity to spend it. It's really the only situation you get AHEAD.

6 months of winter, no thanks. 9 years in Minnesota was enough.

It's easy to say you would be fine with those kind of hours when you've never had to work them.

I once pulled a schedule where we worked 2 weeks at 120 hours a week on a hotel install in the dead of winter in northern Vermont.
Three of the staff had to quit because of the crazies.

Sounds like a hell of a job. You would just have to force yourself to be a working zombie. The trade off is great tho, I would think about that twice.

Not worth it. 50-60 hours STRAIGHT would suck out loud. Not to mention I'm sure its a total sausage fest.

Seems like a story of the gold rush. Gold miners didn't get off the best, the dude selling the picks and the axes did. I bet you make way more money up there selling hookers and blow. I'm really not kidding either.

Whackos exist in every group. They do have some legitimate arguments and concerns.

Enviro-wacko's only have their agenda, which is to save mother earth from the plague called humans. I'm not talking about normal environmentalists who are simply part of the checks and balances game.

Maybe decades or 2-3 depending on the economy:

From what I've gleaned so far that what can be tapped out of this oil field for fuel is what the U.S. consumes in a year...but from what I've read there's more natural gas reserves.

IMO, not wackos, just not educated about what is really going on and they've been misled. Like bigbadberry said, there are some legitimate concerns about aquifer poisoning and earthquakes being set off by some of these fracking companies that royally effed up in Wyoming, Ohio, and PA. When a boom like this is occurring it's not surprising at all to me to see companies cutting corners in safety for the sake of profit. Anyway, it's not going to be halted now that's for sure (unless something bad happens again then the EPA will).

Because of the influx of male workers, strippers and prostitutes are among North Dakota's fastest growing imports. A hooker can live comfortably in Vegas, fly to ND for a weekend, and make thousands.

The lack of housing makes it almost impossible to find a decent place to live. You'll need to bring your own trailer and a wireless data connection, otherwise you'll be homeless.

But if you have the stomach for that kind of work and have nothing else going, it's a great opportunity. I doubt most of the guys who do this will have the discipline to save and invest to get themselves out, opting to spend thousands on fancy pickups, strippers, and stupid gadgets. One of the most profitable Best Buys on the continent is in North Dakota. Some of the fast food restaurants are paying over $15 an hour and cant find enough people to fill the positions, so they're forced to close early.

For anyone who can plan and stick to a budget, imagine living in a trailer for three years, saving 300 grand or so, and moving back home. You could take a small percentage of that money, attend a public university for next to nothing, even go after a masters degree, and graduate with no debt.

Your life would be set. You'd just have to suffer for a while.

Housing is becoming an issue due to the huge influx of workers. I read a story about people taking a class at a local college in order to live in the dorms.

Bakken will be active for years to come. As long as crude prices stay high, they'll keep producing it.

I guess add home construction workers to my list of people that will really make out well from the boom.
