Car: Looking to purchase a Murano

Post

Hi all
Internet surfing and came across this site which I think is wonderful. I need some expert advice on what is the best deal for my money how much I should put down and is the Murano really worth what they are asking. I am posting two different scenarios and I need your help on which is the best one:

1.
Year: 2007
Trim: SL NAV TOUR/Leather/Sunroof
Mileage: 39786
Price:$24744(without tax, tag and title and dealer fees)
$3000-$4000 down...does it make sense

OR

2
Year:2010
Trim: SL/Sunroof/Leather/Nitrogen Tires(WHAT DOES THAT MEAN)
Mileage: 2400
Price:$28999(without tax, tag and title and dealer fees)
$3000-$4000 down...does it make sense

I need help to make sure that I am getting the right deal and what is the pros and cons to both. I know that there is someone on here that could shed some light on this for me. HELP PLEASE. I would like to make a decision by this weekend.

Cheers from the staff here at NICOclub! Glad to have you here in the Murano Forum!

Option #1 seems a bit high to me. Personally, I really like option #2 much better, not to mention you get practically a brand new vehicle, with a much longer warranty left. That is a huge difference in mileage.

You can do a nitrogen fill on any tire. It is supposed to increase your fuel efficiency just a bit, and significantly less fluctuation in tire pressure, even with temperature changes outside. On either option, I would try to get the seller to sharpen their pencil even a little more to sweeten the deal.

Good luck and be sure to post up the details of your purchase!

Welcome! and good luck with your shopping.

I have to say that I would not even consider option #1- you are getting a car that will likely have little, if any, warranty left, with a lot of miles in my opinion. Plus, the other option is a 2010 model year, which is drastically improved in almost every way- most notably in noise reduction, comfort, and fit/finish.

The 2009+ model years are incredible. For the price difference, i think you will be much happier with the 2010. I have driven both and in my opinion, there is no comparison- the 2009+ models are drastically better. Although, you have to go drive both of them and ask yourself what you are looking for in a car. I came from a G35 coupe, 6MT, and was tired of driving a manual, tired of having to grunt every time I got out of the car, and tired of the noisy, bumpy ride. The 2009 murano I have is incredibly quiet and comfortable, has loads of space, has great amenities and creature comforts, and has Infiniti quality materials. I have owned it for over a year and I am still extraordinarily happy. And with the 265hp engine, acceleration is very brisk. When I drove the 2008 model year, I was unimpressed. When I stepped into the 2009, I was astounded.

If you go see both and decide you like the earlier model better, that I would strongly urge you to look for a different car than one with that many miles. YOu can probably find a 2008 with half that many miles for that price.

Just a reminder that there was no 2008 model year, although the 2009 model year was sold in 2008.

Totally correct! Nissan went directly from a 2007 Murano to the all new 2009 Murano even though there was no lag in production, the 2007 models were around for quite some time, as well as the 2009 models that were an early release.

I have to let all of you know that responded thank you but when I tell you that this was the worst car buying experience that I ever faced. I made sure that I did all of the research and discussed with the sales person what the price of the vehicle would be and once we got to the office to sign the papers for the 2010 the price of the car changed which I refused to agree to. Once they changed the price they then started adding all of these other charges to get the price back up. Once we refused that as well they started to tell us about a $1300 service charge that was never accounted for and that there is no way they could sell us the car without that being attached to the price. FALSE ADVERTISING!!!!!

Of course we left without buying the car but this was after being there for 3 hours, I am so pissed and I know that this should not turn me off from the Murano but I don't know if I could deal with another Nissan sales person after that experience. I love the Murano and when I tell you we compared it to many other models in the same class and kept coming back to the Murano. To top it off when we checked back in the system they raised the price of the vehicle significantly, but I guess that is just the automotive sales world. :tisk:

We are determining how to move forward now....

Time to find another dealership. I'd report them to BBB as well. Crock of crap.

Thanks we did our write up to BBB last night and also to Nissan USA. Don't think much will come from it but did it anyway.

If you know you really want a moonroof, just splurge a bit (ie save a little more) and get the model you want that already has it.

These forums are loaded with people jumping through all sorts of hoops to retrofit rearview cameras/leather seats/nav systems/upgraded stereos/HID lights/power rear view mirrors/heated seats/nicer wheels/etc. that they could have gotten standard if they had sprung a little more and bought a slightly more expensive model.

I agree. It will likely cost you less in the long run to get the model with the goodies you want now. I have put a lot of aftermarket stuff on cars in the past- moonroof, wheels, stereos, nav systems. While the aftermarket stereo systems are technically better performance wise, sometimes they don't fit right, leaving spaces in the dash, or they crap out after 2 years, with no warranty, or they get stolen because they look too blingy (happened once to me). I have had aftermarket moonroofs leak, with no warranty, and they look bad compared to the stock version (and the controls aren't integrated into the ceiling of the car, either). I have had aftermarket wheels that were very difficult to balanace, and caused lots of steering wheel shake (probably just poor manufacturing, but they did cost me over $800). And nav systems that were not quite as compatible with the car's other electronics as I would have liked. After many headaches, I realized that if a specific option is that important to you, spend the money now to get what you want and say time, money, and frustration later. YOu get a stock look, covered under the existing warranty, and there are no compatbility issues. Plus, whatever option it is, the stock version will give you a higher resale value than an aftermarket one (generally speaking).
