Sorry I think this will be long winded.....

'94 240, pull codes 34, 35 knock sensor and exhaust temp (cal. models only??) The car was purchased new in D.C. and has had another motor put in it. I read another post where it was a Cal. model w/ a non Cal. motor and they could not stop the code 35.

Is there any way to tell if this car was set up for Cal. emissions, or if the ECU is for Cal. emissons?

Should I try to switch the ECU?

Or does code 35 something else?

The shop replaced the EGR solenoid, but that did not fix the problem.:help

35 is the "EGR temperature sensor circuit" from the 95 FSM.

"The EGR temerpature sensor circuit is open or shorted. (An abnormally high or low voltage is entered)

ok, do you have any idea where the circuit is located or how to test it? do you think that may be causing the other code for the KS?

(thanks for the reply)

the ECU should be in the kick panel of the passenger side. you have to remove a few screws.

to diagnose, you'll see a small red LED light, and a screw type thing. What you'll want to do is after you take the ECU out, with a flat head screwdriver turn the screw fully clockwise (a complete 180) and then back again. This should give you a blinking code like blink blink blink, (then faster) blink-blink-blink). That means code 33 for example. Once you find the code, let me know and i'll look it up. or search here on the boards for that code

I had already pulled the ecu and got codes 34, and 35. I reset the ecu and it promply came back on. I repulled the codes and got the same 34, 35. I am not sure where to start w/ the code 35, as everywhere I look it says for Cal. models only.

The car seems to be running well, it does bog down between 1,500 and 2,000 rpm some times, but I figured that was a fuel prob. or the knock sensor retarding my timing??

Thanks again for all your help....

bah, it probably shorted. 34 is the knock sensor. You might want to eitehr replace these sensors, or have a shop and/or dealership look at it. But it might be costly
