My 2007 Versa SL has a CVT transmission, recently it began breaking engagement at highway speeds. I took it in to the dealership, they ran some diagnostics and...hit the reset button. Long story short the problem went away very temporarily.

Now its back with a grin and a twist. As before it began breaking engagment at 65mph+ but as i drove it back from my weekend trip it worsened. From 1 slip every 10 minutes or so to 1 slip every 10secs or so and it occured even at lower speeds (40mph).

Breaking Engagement is like the CVT is disengaging from the engine for a split second then re-engaging which cause the RPM's to jump then normalize as the resistance is reapplied.

Has this happened to anyone or am i the test subject.

To my knowledge, you are the first to have this issue on this forum. I would continue to bring it back to the dealer, it sounds like a possible electronic failure, since the "TCU Reset" fixed it. My '07 SL/CVT has been trouble-free for nearly 60,000 miles (knock on wood), so once yours is fixed, expect a relatively trouble-free life afterwards.

How is Chambersburg these days? My mom's family is from there. My Great-Grandparents lived in the purple brick house next to Rite-Aid on E. Queen st, but moved to nursing homes in the early '90s (both are deceased now). The Rite-Aid was built in the late '90s or so, destroying almost the entire city block... what a shame.

Don't know how likely, but could there be premature wear on either the pulleys, belt or both?

I knew it i'm a test subject in a evil government conspiracy.... or something like that. Chambersburg is on the grow...well except for the Circuit City that went under. There is quite a bit of new blood around pouring money into downtown businesses like new upscale grills, cafe's, bookstores, etc. but we also have quite the illegal problem. what used to be a migrant work force has decided to stay year round displacing half of the downtown. although i'm a big football (soccer) guy so to me its all good cause thats definitely getting bigger round here too. lol other than that everthing changes but everything stays the same.

Make sure you pop in and let everyone know what comes of this as it seems to be a "new issue"

Thanks for the ideas, after droping it off for the second time the Dealer called and let me know that the problem doesn't exist. LOLI re-explained that my wife and I have a brain and re-stated in detail the less than normal behavior of my versa. After some convincing they decided to take it for an overnight drive. As i explained the problem only occurs once the transmission is good and warm. (30 miles+) I'll try to keep everyone up to date as too the status of this one.

Hope you made note of your mileage to ensure they actually dive it around.

Update: After hours of certified professionals going over the problem they have decided to replace the transmission. Did I mention Nissan couldn't diagnose the problem. Thats why they are throwing a new transmission at the problem.. Oh well, so much for the scientific method.

At least they did not send it back with a "can't replicate" note
