Please help me!

I'm about to buy an LSD that has been in a 240sx.

But the output flanges do not follow in the deal. Can I use my flanges from my open diff?

Is it the lump, the inner part of the diff that makes the whole difference?Or do I have to buy new flanges from Nissan?

Please help me! If you don't know what I mean, tell my, and I will try to explain it...

Look at the picture, thats what I'm buying...

:help :help :help

nope, you need lsd outdrives. ive read the open diff outdrives wont work.

Anybody know the Nissan part# for the LSD outdrives? I need to get some myself.

Thanks.

What kind of car are you putting it into? I will assume it is going into another 240sx.

If so, your output flanges should do just fine. That is the internal workings of your differential, and yes.... that is what makes all the diference. This will bolt directly into your stock pumpkin.

EDIT: Oops, now you've got two conflicting replies!!! I would suggest you search the archives or go to dealer and see if the part numbers were differnt for VLSD and open diff output shafts. I think I'm right, but I wouldn't put money on it!:D

Ok, tnx for the answers so far...A little against eachother though... =)

My car is a 180/240sx -93, (s13) with the CA18DET engine, but in Sweden we call them 200sx.

>>>Maineimport, are you REALLY REALLY sure about this?

Yes... I've read that to... And it says that I shouldn't have to change the output flanges...

you dont need to change them if you buy the complete assembly with the differential case and flanges installled if it comes out of a 240sx.

you are just buying the differential itself, so you have a lot of work ahead of you because you need to disassemble you differential in your car now. The outdrives from the standard "open" diff will not work with the VLSD.

You need to buy the vlsd outdrives. I will need some also so does anybody have the nissan part #?

I stand corrected... the output flanges are different, SR was totally right. Your best bet is to buy the entire unit. Sorry!:D

Ok, found the number for thr output flange, but I'm not sure that it's international... So you still have to check that it's a flange when you call Nissan for it.

Maybe you can write here what the price is?

That's what happens when I try to rely on my memory, instead of looking it up to begin with!:D (D'oh!)

My 95 already had VLSD from the factory, so it's not something I have dealt with personally, now that I read the 240sx.org article again I remember exactly what you were saying.

1st question:

I called up my local Nissan dealer with those part #'s and here is what they want:

# 38220-92L00 $193.70

# 38220-52F01 $166.46

That is outrageous pricing on those flanges? Are they gold plated?

Anybody know where I can get them cheaper?

2nd question:

Buying this diff from a guy online. He says its a 300ZX NA VLSD and has 0 miles on it. He bought it for his 240sx, but the car was totaled before he had a chance to install it.

Can anybody visually verify that it is a 300ZX VLSD? I know it has the right output flanges for the 300ZX.

Thanks.

Try there, wheels hubs were significantly lower at Courtesy than at my local dealer, may be the case for you...

Okay, thanks. I tried searching on their site a few days ago, but nothing was coming up. I'll just try calling.

Anybody know if the 300ZX diff is a VLSD? I kinda need to know ASAP.

Thanks guys!

look, all the j30 carriers are lsd and you can find all kinds of them i just put a 97 (if its older then 96 it has different output shafts) j30 lsd in my 92 240sx with not problems, you have to change the backing plate and make some type of washer/spacer for the front mounts the whole job took about 2 1/2 hours

thanks for the tip, but that doesn't answer my question. I'm well aware that I COULD use the infiniti rear end. Right now I'm asking if that 300ZX diff is a VLSD or not?

I'm not getting any replies, so I'm assuming no one knows. Can't believe I stumped the board with a simple question like this! :pface

Well you can't tell from that picture. See if you can get a closer picture of the writing on the unit. I believe it should say something like R200 on it if its a N/A vlsd diff.

that was a pic off of eBay. I had bid $250 on it, but the auction ended w/reserve not met @$160.

I asked the guy how much he wanted for it, but he has not replied. I am getting e-mails from some other high bidders on his other auctions who say he is also not responding to their e-mails. So I'm staying away from this one.

I've seen some with an orange sticker that says VLSD, but didn't see it on this one, thats why I asked.
