I cannot seem to get the upper timing cover removed. The valve cover and distributer have been removed, and I am at TDC to prevent any timing troubles. All bolts on the upper cover have been removed as per the FSM. I don't want to pull on it too hard, as it might break something being aluminium. Any tips?

It's held on by RTV if you've actually removed all the bolts. Once I removed all the bolts, we had to gently tap the upper cover with a small piece of wood and a hammer. After a bit of tapping, the cover finally broke loose.

Just be careful, because the head gasket juts out and provides the seal between the upper and lower covers. You don't want to be damaging that.

BTW, double check the FSM and make sure you got all of the bolts before you whack it with a hammer. :D

Thanks. I will try that as soon as it stops raining.

Cool...are you doing the whole timing chain, or just removing the upper guides?

I'm ungumming the tensioners, and checking to see how much wear there is on the guides. I think I have found a way to use really small box wratchets to replace the lower tensioner from the upper cover.

Good luck. Be careful you don't drop anything down there. That, I think, would really, really suck. Keep us posted.
