Labor costs are regional. Why only replace rear shocks (and all rubber, I presume)?

well there is no "upper" ball joint, there is only the ball joint on the lower control where it attaches to the hub...

Owners need to know whats actaully being replaced before determining if its a ripoff----------- common sense.

Excuse me, but do either of you REALLY think those replies were very helpful? Instead of pointing out what he DOESN'T know, you could actually tell him what you DO know.

But I'm no expert - what do I know.

good enough, but it is also not anyones responsibility to spoon feed owners, its all there in previous posts!!!!!

I guess this doesnt apply here, so here goes...... Attached is a picture of the front suspension..... You will see it labeled TRANSVERSE LINK WITH BALL JOINT.. Im ont 100% sure if you can replace the ball joint by itself or if you have to get a new transverse link... regardless, i odnt htink theyre too terribly expensive..... I have a used one with a good bushing and balljoint ill sell you for not much money, should you be interested.....

You can see where the ball joint is... I wasnt aware that the ball joints failed too often in the Q... Ive never really heard of the balljoint failing.....

I think it would be best if the orignal poster would tell us the symptoms and we can go from there.

He wants to know what it should cost to replace the left inner tie rod and ball joint, as well as rear struts.

The rear struts will run $300-$400, parts & labor, including boots and bump stops? Be sure they order and replace those, too, as long as they have it apart.

So, how much to replace the inner tie rod and ball joint? I searched through 14 pages from a search on "ball joint" and didn't find any labor or cost estimates.

Maybe somehere here actually knows, roughly?

to be honest I dont know how much it costs... an entire strut job for labor (all 4) is about 2.5 hours.. not bad at all...

The ball joint im uncertain of, but i think you could R/R one transverse link for less than an hour..... inner tie rod i have no clue on, but anytime you fiddlle with the tie rods you have to get an alignment done..

How many angels can dance on the head of a needle?

Dealer labor rates in SF are nearing $150/hr. Even in midwest they are over $100/hr. INdependents? Who knows without asking locally?

You tell us. Maybe you have a flat rate book. I don't.

you guys were helpful I guess, thanks alot 96Qowner(really) .I may not know alot about Q's, but isnt that what this site is for? if we are expected to look through all the previous posts for our info, then oops silly me. thanks for "spoonfeeding" me.if you think my questions are dumb DONT ANSWER THEM! im trying to fix my car not play little games. as far as symptoms, I really didn't notice my struts were bad I knew I needed an alignment and the tire rod but what has me concerned about getting ripped off is that I have had it fail 4 different inspections, 1 for bad tires which I replaced, then for my rims being to big- I bought stock 15's-, then for the tire rod, which I thought was a stretch so I took It somewhere else where they told me the ball joint, left inner tire rod, and rear struts needed replacement. at 65$ an hour you think 1000$ would take care of the problem?? maybe I should go through all the previous posts........

$1000 should do it, easily, yup. Check back in a couple days - more people will reply.

If you do a search for "ball joint", you'll at least get an idea of what is involved. Try both recent and archived threads and be sure to check "post bodies", so you don't just get threads with the search term in the title.

Actually, if I understand correctly, you don't need to replace JUST the ball joint - simpler to replace the whole control arm, which includes the ball joint.

But then, I don't always know what I'm talking about.

My shop did the labor for $130... $65 shop rate... you do the math, its not hard... 5 hours is way overkill as once the wheels are off, it only takes a few mins to pull the shock down...

I still dont know what your car is doing... I am more than willing to help you out, but you gotta give me something to chew on.... What exactly is the car doing that you think is a problem????????

Bodge420's profile says it's a '92 Q45a...

Which is a whole different thing altogether.

You gotta tell us this stuff.

Ball joint 1 hour (actually less) 300ZX BJ can be pressed in.ITRE and boot> (might as well R&R them both) 1 hourAlignment $= 50 -100
