Hey Everyone - my mother has a 1967 1600 and lives in Tuscon. She used to live in a state with no yearly emissions testing and didn't have an issue passing smog but her car is running too rich and can't pass smog in AZ. She's having trouble finding a shop which knows how to tune side drafts. The carbs were replaced a few years ago by the previous owner. I'm on the east coast so I don't have the ability to help her in person. Does anyone know of a shop or even a trustworthy individual who can tune in the Tuscon area?

thank you!

I would just go on Google maps and see what kinds of shops are near your mom. Maybe call one and see if they could recommend someone that deals with older cars. Those S.U. carbs are also used on British cars, so a British auto shop might be able to help with that. Sorry I can't be more helpful.

Thanks for the british car idea! I had googled and found a shop which used to do datsun work but the main guy is retired and works in the office now. They said it'll be a year before they can get around to messing with hers. I forgot that the Lotus' and some MGs etc also used to use side drafts like Webers. I found 2 british car shops near her which hopefully are a lead.

Do that, but also put the car on a classic car insurance policy (Hagerty) and that eliminates the emissions testing requirement.

oh snap. for real? That's a game changer. Does she then just take the proof of classic car insurance to the DMV and they waive the emissions testing requirement?

I'd like to have her look at getting it tuned regardless as it's never been since she purchased it, but I know it's difficult sometimes to get carbs to pass emissions - my 76 corolla was titled in AZ for a while and my grandfather always had issues getting it passed.

Correct. Thought it was common knowledge, but apparently not. :)

haha - either way thank you! She lived in NC for decades with no emissions testing and recently retired and moved back where she's from in the Tuscon/Phoenix area and isn't the best with figuring stuff like this out. Thank you! She loves her 67 1/2 and has been really stressing about it since she moved.

I'm glad to see this forum is still active. I used to come on here ages ago and remember meeting yall at NOPI in Atlanta in like 2005 or 6 with my Silvia and getting a t-shirt from yall. I still have it and wear it in the garage!

Sweet! I have a half year 311 as well. Give a shout next time you're in PHX and we'll catch up for a burger and a tour of Datsun Ranch.

Definitely man! I'm going to probably make it out to visit this year and will for sure hit you up. you have some very cool cars under your username. Wouldn't happen to be interested in purchasing my 97 silvia K's with 80,000 km would you? I'll unfortunately be selling it this year.

We're also in search of a shifter bushing kit for the 311 but can't find anything and tried some Z parts which don't fit. Do you have any leads on parts?

That's right up my alley, let's talk.

Let me check my stash, I may have a bushing and pin.

That'd be very awesome of you man. I'd paypal you for it assuming you can find them and she said she can come pick them up (my aunt lives in phoneix and my mom goes there often).

I believe it's the two rubber bushings which are on the shifter arm. Apparently it's pretty common for them to go bad and then you can't get it in gear. Best lead I have right now is on datsunroadster.com

I'd love for the Silvia to go to an enthusiast rather than a drifter kid with rich parents who slides it into a tree. I'll hit you back about it when I get it prepared to sell later this year.

Yep, that would be my go-to for those bits.

I think I actually installed mine right before I switched to a 5-speed, so the new owner has them. :)

Hey man - do you have any brake parts for a 1600? My mom got her carb situation handled by a British car shop called Falcon Works, but they're struggling finding some brake parts.
