1990 KA-E w/ 202k milesidles about 1k, but a rough idlegas smell around drivers side of car (small exhaust leak in piping)1st gear is kinda boggy, but when in 2nd or 3rd it pulls pretty welllittle bit of a "put....put.put.....put" from exhaust (may be from leak though)when i let the revs drop down from 3k towards 2k it kinda bogs/stutters and wants to be downshifted

any ideas on what could be the problems, or any things that would be good to clean out or look into would be very good help.. thanks in advance

The exhaust is most likely coming form your converter. It can be one or both of the flange gaskets.Good idea to change them both it your going to crawl under anyway. They only cost $3-5 each. It's anoying more then anything else. Not sure about the sputtering. Have you checked your plugs and wires?

Your motor has 202K on it. That pretty much speaks for everything. It just needs an all over refreshing in the sensors and valves (IAC,o2, TPS) and clean the throttlebody.

But you should get a compression tester from Autozone or advance auto and check the numbers to make sure you still have decent pressure.
