My transmission is making some bad noises. I think it has to do with my clutch. When I stop it makes a kind of humming/grinding noise if its in gear and the clutch is engaged. If i put it in neutral it stops. Does any one know what is causing this and how I can fix it. Money is not really an issue. I want it fixed right.

It does it when you're stopped, in gear, and have the clutch engaged?? By engaged do you mean pedal up or down?

my trans made kind of a whirring sound when it was in neutral and my foot was off the clutch

I changed my transmission oil with mobil1 synthetic 75w-90 (or was it 80w-90? whichever the required spec is)after switching over, after about a week of driving, my transmission was a lot more quiet.

When the clutch is pushed in it makes the noise. I have royal purple transmission fluid so i dont see how that would be a proble i changed it in July.

Throw-out bearing? Mine has been making noise since car got started up after clutch install. Just got use to it. Even though I get annoyed every second because of it. Before my clutch got replaced I barely made it to the shop. Avoiding wrecks because I couldn't go anywhere and because my car would just decide to go when it felt like it. I would have the clutch pedal pushed to the floor and my car would take off. Almost made me get hit by a semi. Somehow the spring in the clutch broke and my spring was grinding. Also the spring aded like 3/16th" so it would catch then engage my transmission even if my clutch was pushed down. Does it seem like your clutch is slipping?

If you have the clutch in and the car stopped, then no part of the transmission should be moving. Since putting it in nertral stops the noise, something is moving, meaning your clutch is the first place to look. For whatever reason, it is still transmitting power to the transmission even when you're on the pedal.

if you hear a whirring noise while the clutch is engaged (foot off the clutch pedal) and then the noise goes away when you disengage the clutch (push in the clutch pedal) then that is a bad throw out bearing.

pedal down making noise and pedal up no noise? thats a throwout bearing. we need to eliminate the trans as a possibility by checking out the neutral issue. when in neutral and you leave clutch up what happens? hate to pull trans for the bearing and then still need to work on it internally.

I took the car to Nissan and to a transmission shop in Norman, OK and both said it was the throwout bearing. Im going to replace the clutch and flywheel. I want a clutch that is stiffer than the centerforce and can hold more power since I am going turbo my car within the next year. What is the best clutch for my car that won't be overkill. I am also getting a flywheel. I don't know exactly which one to get. I'm looking at Fidanza and Unorthodox so far. Does anyone have suggestions on both.
